Custom Beamer Template
If you're like me, you enjoy LaTeX because of it's excellent typesetting compared to the alternatives. The benefit of using a latex presentation package like beamer or prosper/Powerdot is enormous especially if the content has mathematical formulas, LaTeX tables, or other LaTeX-based content --- these can then be copied directly from a LaTeX paper.
Using beamer, you quickly realize that almost all the default presentation themes are quite graphically deficient. The problem is unlike modifying a Powerpoint presentation theme, the learning curve for beamer is much higher. Mostly this is because beamer was actually designed to be hierarchically modifiable, which actually ends up reducing the amount of code you have to write (making it easier to write a theme), except the barrier to entry is that much greater.
The theme here pulls what I saw as the important parts of the beamer theme hierarchy up into a few files and overrides several key elements that were useful to creating the look I was after.
